Make Copilot faster
Status:
started
We've recently started using Akamai for Copilot and are currently measuring its effectiveness. Check out http://www.joelonsoftware.com/items/2009/02/05.html for more information.

At this moment, I just can't use copilot for normal work on a remote desktop. I hope this will be fixed soon or we will have to switch to a provider with a dedicated european host.

Has anyone else noticed a significant slowness to copilot over the past month? It's starting to become unbearable. Our network environment hasn't changed, and 90% of the clients we service have high speed internet. We have another remote service we use for meetings and there is no slowness there are all.

How about an option to turn of display refreshes during a file copy. I am trying to copy a 300MB file, and it has transferred 360K after 10 minutes. I ge tthe feeling this is because the connection is starved as a result of all the bandwidth being used for display updates.

my connections have been MUCH better since the upgrade :)

It seems the last update was three months ago - I would really like to get a recent update on this, what are you going to do to speed this up and when do you think it will be ready. I'm getting antsy - its often a painful utility to use for support. I shouldn't have to ask the customer to drive while I watch - good product though, just getting antsy for the money I'm spending. Thanks guys!

I think you need a UK/Europe based host. That would really speed up users on this side of the world.
From what I can find, you have no one else offering a similar, easy-to-use, service. Lowering latency for my UK use would really increase the amount of money I can earn in remote login support fees.
You could have a UK specific (sterling pound) pricing model...

I would also support the need for speed. I tested this app by connecting to my server on my own network and compared to other such services, it is slow. Hope the planned changes will workaround this.

Sometimes the helper or helpee's connection speed becomes slow. Could you give the helper the option to lower the quality of the view of the helpee's screen (less data to send) in order to speed up the service (particularly refresh rate). I often would choose this tradeoff.

We have a few things planned that should help with performance in general. It would be great to hear if people have specific speed issues that they would like resolved. If so, leave your comment here.
